What is PLA?

Polylactic acid - a solution for single use plastic items

Polylactic acid, or PLA, is a bioplastic derived from the common starch family. It is completely non-toxic and food-safe.

PLA shares many of the convenient characteristics of oil-based plastics but greatly differs in its environmental impact. Most importantly, bacteria and fungi can break it down under natural circumstances, reducing environmental pollution. Carbon emissions are also significantly reduced during production and creates no toxic fumes when burned.

Its environmental impact is optimally reduced via recycling in industrial recycling facilities, allowing it to be used again to produce new bioplastic items. On average, 70-90% CO2 emissions are saved.
